Demitra Hecataki is a spirited street magician from Greece who craves adventure and an escape from her boring life.
Victor Garnett is a popular schoolboy from England, hiding a curious secret about his recurring dreams.
Robin Windsor is a clever young man from India, descended from British royalty and determined to help his country win its independence.
But, how are these three connected?
The story is set both on Earth and in Octavia, an otherworld of transcendent kingdoms that has prospered in peace and unity for an Age. Octavia is a technologically-advanced place where science and supernatural abilities are entwined, and the nurturing of one’s soul can unlock their ancient secrets. The Earthborn speak of legends, of heroes and villains that once lived and ruled the Heavens and the Netherworlds; heroes and villains who, in eons past, were worshipped as gods. This mythology, however, is known by another name to the many races of Octavia:
They call it history…
While humans entertain their young with the fables of Ancient Egypt, Chinese folklore or fairytales from Celtic tradition, the Octavian museums display artefacts and weapons that once belonged to powerful kings like the Olympian Zeus and Odin the Allfather. But, four hundred years have passed since the terrible uprising of Ragnarok changed this world forever, and the days of such renowned leaders are long gone. The vast city skylines are dominated by towering structures of gold and marble, where unlimited and renewable energy is sourced from celestial crystals. Progressive races of men, elves, skinchangers, giants, centaurs, fairies, vampires, dragons and countless more ethnicities have formed seemingly-harmonious societies – the legacy of Ragnarok – but this was eventually doomed to unravel.
The Kingdom of Yggdrasil is in mourning, shaken to its core by the terrible events that have befallen Valhalla. With the future shrouded in uncertainty and the governing authorities betrayed by deceit, the fate of Octavia rests on the shoulders of what few gifted individuals have denounced the reign of the new Allfather. As support for the opposition gathers in secret, even the knowledge of things to come cannot stop time running out.
Meanwhile, Victor and Demitra find themselves in the possession of mysterious crystals, and are suddenly thrust into the heart of this strange otherworld. The pair must quickly overcome their differences if they are to survive rides on flying horses, encounters with monstrous serpents, being hunted by the feared Dragon Assassin, and a conspiracy so damning it will shake the very foundations of Valhalla.
However, just as the legendary heroes of Octavia once wielded extraordinary abilities on Earth, so do the Earthborn here. As they career towards an unforgettable climax, Victor, Demitra, and a host of mythical allies will have to risk everything to succeed, and unleash the strongest magic of them all: Axtelera Ray.
The time has come for the Chosen to rise…
Axtelera Ray: Rise of Astrone is an epic saga that fuses fantasy and superheroes with real historical events and global mythology. The tale is primarily told through the eyes of Victor and Demitra, explaining the details of this fantastical world from their perspective, but does utilise other characters to provide a fuller overview of the interweaving story arcs. In addition, there is a sub-plot set in the early 20th century that follows the life of Robin and his brother Aryan, but their journey will not be revealed until the book’s full release.
This entry of the saga, The Chronicles of Astrone, draws heavily from Norse mythology, but also incorporates Germanic, Slavic, Egyptian, Celtic, Greek, Chinese and Native American lore to create a unique story that can be enjoyed by children and adults alike.
